I think you're talking a "Lone Star" & the star done in only 8 pieces of fabric? Some lone stae patterns are diamonds, others are long strips sewn together then cut the point. I'd take a Lone Star pattern & instead of cutting/sewing all the diamonds or strips together just measure out the size & cut 8 pieces.
