Personally I like the way Eleanor Burns does flying geese. Here is a pattern with the instructions on how to do it her way. Of course it is easier to do them using her ruler. http://www.quiltinaday.com/freepatte...Crossroads.pdf

Thanks to everyone with suggestions. I am putting it together correctl; I will post a photo soon of the layout on the table. I wish I was better with math and triangles...I have to rely on the correctnes of the pattern so I've always used squares and rectangles. In the "old days" (when I started quilting in mid 1980) I traced the pattern pieces out of magazine onto cardboard, traced the cardboard shape on the fabric, added the seam allowance by eye and didn't have the trouble these directions are giving me! :)
