I have done more of an applique method for my sons t-shirts. I wanted to be able to add more year after year so I made a quilt and just cut out the best parts of the shirt and sewed them on. When you have 5 year old shirts and 15 year old shirts you cannot get the same size squares. They are more like crazy quilts.
