I have a Brother CE4000 that I bought almost new off Craigslist for $50. Get the best machine you can afford, won't be sorry. Brother's are good machines. Dollar for dollar I prefer Brothers over White, Singer, Kenmore, etc.
I prefer Janome over Brother but the price range is higher.
