I'm in the same boat as Spudgm. The water sits in the bottom but you can't see it. After awhile it starts to smell and my towels never smell clean and fresh like they use to. FYI...... my repair man told me that Whirlpool bought out Maytag so if you buy a Maytag it's really a Whirlpool.
I don't like that I can't soak things and if you forget to put something in you have to wait 2 mins. for the door to unlocks. Who's idea was that, some made that has nothing better to do then wait around.
