Any closely woven polyester or nylon will outlast any of us. A polyester satin from the special occasion fabric dept at JoAnn's would be fine. The only caution would be to use a pattern with straight lines. Polyester won't ease nicely on curves as well as cottons. A wide satin ribbon would pass for satin fabric. Again, polyester, rayon is very shiny, but not as strong.
I've used polyester jacquard fabric with woven roses in throw pillows and I have a lot of grandsons who use those pillows. Not as soft to touch as satin, but it gives a pretty effect.
