Whoever it was that says they learned to sew by making doll clothes wasn't me! They're the hardest things in the world to sew! Give me toddler's patterns any day - nor real waist or hips - and they don't usually care about perfection!
I agree! I just finished a really lovely outfit for my DGD's American Girl doll. Even though these dolls are larger than Barbies, and I've made my share of those too, they are still not a piece of cake. I didn't think I'd have to have the doll actually WITH me for fittings since the patterns would be exactly correct wouldn't they? WRONG! These patterns were just too small enough so that I couldn't get the doll's arms into the sleeves without ripping them off. The sleeves, not the arms. So after trying to get the clothes on the doll, I had to take out the sleeves and enlarge them. Not fun. But I learned my lesson. Have the doll with me for fittings just as though she were human.
