scissors. is there a reason you are using heavy cardboard? i use cereal boxes to make odd sized templates, then use my plastic squares/rulers as a straight edge on top of the newly cut cardboard template. {it is too EZ to cut into the cardboard w/o it.}
Amen ! you can press freezer paper templates to the fabric, then use your ruler & rotary cutter to get nice, clean lines.
NEVER use your rotary cutter without a ruler for a guide.
most of the time, you can cut a strip, make one cut from the template, and then just measure over for the rest of the cuts. when making a number of cuts, it is best to stop every 4-5 cuts & make sure your angles are still true.
this holds true when cutting a # of strips WOF also.
