My mother bought my dd a brand new Viking Sew Easy 4 years ago and paid $400 for it. My first complaint with it was the blind hem stitch requires the bulk of the fabric on the inside...thus the garment is bunched up and difficult to manipulate/hem. She has difficulty sewing regular fabric because it eats the fabric (pulls the fabric down into the feed dogs)
or the thread clogs (not just at the beginning either). She doesn't use the machine because she isn't happy with it. I have used it but it's a pain the the a**** to sew on.
Should I have her sell it and buy one that she wants? I have a Viking 6460 that needs repair (it's new but was stored improperly and is locked up) that I could give her... she wanted one like mine (6430) I think that if she had a better sewing machine, she'd take more interest in sewing. She was interested and sewed when she was a child but when she got this machine, it fights her tooth and nail and she doesn't want to have anything to do with sewing.
The dilemma is that her grandmother gets offended if she gets rid of something that she gave to dd.
