I made one just after Christmas last year. Same here, didn't want the ruffle, but did add a wide border so it would be larger. I had some scraps left that I made matching stockings with. This is mine:

DJ - I LOVE LOVE LOVE your tree skirt and stockings! So funny that we did the same type of thing with the colors! The button loops you did are fabulous. I'm a beginning quilter, so I was afraid to try a binding on the circle, so I just pillowcased mine. Yours looks so professional!
I was also thinking that I needed to make something with the opposite wedges - although I was thinking scrappy table runner - but your stockings give me ideas... hmmmmm....
