You can mix them with other fabrics or you can use them by themselves. Some batiks are poly, poly blends, or 100% cotton it just depends on what you ordered. There's beautiful patterns free online for quilts made from batiks or you can use traditional patterns, your favorite blocks, or whatever. Start looking through some books or magazines, you'll know the pattern to use with your fabrics when you see it, it will just jump out at you.
