Simply put two fabrics right sides together, draw a circle, cut out the circle and then cut the circle in half. That makes 2 napkins, sew two pcs together and leave an opening for turning, turn r/s out and sew opening and just keep going. Have fun
You are absolutely correct that those directions are long-winded.
The basic concept is very simple. The only tricky part is deciding where the folding point is.
