the full size pre-cut batting is 81x96 and a queen size is 96x108. would get the queen size so that I can make sure that it will have plenty of hang over. how large would you guys make it? I was thinking 88x 100 or so. that sound about right?
If your 8 3/4" is the size before joining, then 10 blocks by 12 blocks will be about 83" x 99".
If your 8 3/4" is the finished size after joining, then 10 blocks by 11 blocks will be about 88" x 97".
Multiply the number of blocks times 4, for the four squares in each block.
This is the total number of 5" squares you need.
If you are cutting your own, figure on getting 8 squares across each 5" strip.
Divide the total number of 5" squares by 8 to know how many 5" wide strips WOF you need.
Because fabric measurements are not nice multiples of 5" it is probably easier to buy packets.
