Cones are not meant to set on the machine because they aren't suppose to rotate. I use a thread stand or put the cone in a jar. I use CT cone thread and like it a lot. I use the neutral color for most all my piecing. I bought the cone of CT thin poly and it's great for bobbins and piecing.
