The cone sits at the back, on the right, on the thread ledge where there are 2 pins to hold spools/cones. There is a metal arm that swings up over this area. It has 2 loops on the bar. You first thread the thread through the loop that corresponds with the side the pin your spool/cone is on. The left side is for the needle & the right side is for winding bobbins. I don't have extra cones, so I put the cone on the left spool & wind from there. Machine doesn't seem to mind. I store the thread "caps" on the right pin. You don't need to use a cap on a cone. Page 3 of your instruction Book shows the back of your machine and the shelf/ledge for the spools/cones. Pages 17 & 19 have drawings that show where to put the spool/cone.
