Hi, sorry donīt have a singer but do have a brother. The drop feed latch is usually at the back of the machine, or it might be tucked underneath at the back, have a good look around it its just like a little switch.
About the embroidery, not quite sure how yours works but it could just be out of synche a wee bit. On my screen when I embroider there is a icon that looks like a page. When you press it you get into the setting on the machine, if you can on your one, go to the Embroidery section and you should be able to sort it from there.
No Book, look up on the web for a manual,just type in Singer (Model No.) Manual. If you donīt have luck there try Ebay or one of the shops that sell Singer machines.
