My Mother's Mother used to do Pine needle baskets, using the very long pine needles and raffia-like straw or waxed cording. She also incorporated slices of nut shells as decorative elements on the handles.
She even made a clock, and a large round basket with a lid that I use as a sewing basket.
Basket weaving is on my to learn list. I have all kinds of sites saved so when I get all the vintage quilt repaired, that is what I am going to learn. Can you show us your sewing basket? I love all things Native American so I thought basket weaving would be a great decor item.
