I would use a color catcher when you wash the quilt. It's amazing how it keeps colors from running. I use them on every new quilt and don't see much color in them at the end of the wash. Most newer fabrics don't run much.
A friend even used these on a quilt she had dried and red had run into the white. Fortunately all the red came out!!! We were both surprised.
