I actually would sew squares together and once I had 11 of them, sew a whole row together with another row of 11, and then I would take a break and cut while I was watching tv with a spring loaded scissors. I think that is the secret, the scissors plus cutting a little here and there. As far as the seams, I wanted to have pockets in the quilt to make it interesting, but the extra thickness make it difficult to sew. I actually had to get my machine serviced once while making the quilt because I hit a belt loop and it was way to thick! So, after that I avoided belt loops and was super careful of any studs in the pockets. Believe it or not, it went together pretty quickly since they were 7 inch squares.
