To DJW.
Rag Scissors are made especially for doing rag quilting. They are heavy duty and usually have comfort grip handles. The ones I bought have spring action which really is an advantage when cutting through thicker fabric, especially the repetition required to fray the edges. The blades are much shorter than regular scissors. Good ones are pricey, but there are sales and coupons you can take advantage of. I know Fons and Porter have some, but i don't believe they have spring action. I bought mine at a local quilt shop that accepts JoAnn's 40% coupons. I had done an internet search to see the different kinds and who carried them, but when I saw I could get them locally at a good price, I purchased them. If you plan to make many rag quilts, they are a wise investment. Hope that helps:-)
