To Dana,
What a snow story!!! I think I'm glad I live in Florida, although we do have hurricanes. When Hurricane Camille hit in 1969 I was 8 months pregnant. This was long before the internet, and we were young; hadn't been tracking the storm closely. A policeman rang our door bell in the middle of the night saying there was a mandatory evacuation of the area where we lived, and that there was a shelter at a local high school if we needed a place. We hastily packed a few essentials, bundled our 2 year old up and drove to the shelter. They only had a couple cots, and they gave me one due to my advanced pregnancy. We ended up being there for two days and nights, camped out in a high school gymnasium with a 2 year old! They kept a close eye on me, sure that I would go into labor with the barometric changes, but thankfully, I did not. Our baby daughter arrived 1 month later, 3 days after my due date. That is as close as I ever want to come with an adventure with nature:-) Now when it is hurricane season, we track those storms very carefully!
