Hope this helps! Has a lot of good info.
~Buckwheat Hulls~

Buckwheat Hulls are the outside part of the seeds produced by buckwheat, Polygonum Fagopyrum. After harvesting, the hulls are separated from the seeds and VOILA! Buckwheat Hulls. The hulls are then air, vacuum and gravity cleaned, ready for use in:

Buckwheathull Pillows/Cushions
Zafu
Zabuton
Meditation/Yoga Mat
Eye Pillow
Neck Roll
Travel Pillow
Lumbar Support
Computer Wrist Support

****BUCKWHEAT HULLS SHOULD NOT BE USED IN MICROWAVABLE ITEMS****

~Whole Buckwheat Seeds~

Whole Buckwheat Seeds (also known as berries) are the un-separated, hull shebang. Whole buckwheat seeds are used commercially by the Bucky company in their "Hottie" products. Our whole seeds were recently featured in a segment on Martha Stewart and can safely be heated in the microwave for use in:

Hot/Cold Therapy Packs

Homemade Heating Pads

Hand and Foot Warmers

~FAQ~

Q: What is "Lagniappe" and why is it printed at the bottom of each page?

A: Lagniappe (lan yap) is a popular word around New Orleans and means "a little something extra, given without charge or by way of good measure." It's a popular word in Morrisville, NC because the folks that work with us all have a little something extra. We celebrate the gifts each of our friends have and try to include a little lagniappe (usually a bookmark) with each order.

Q: Were those really your whole buckwheat seeds on the Martha Stewart show?

A: Yep! Morrisville, NC's www.BuckwheatHull.com has hit the big time!

Q: How much is needed to make one of Martha's homemade heating pads?

A: About 3.5 pounds of whole seeds. Not hulls. Unless you don't plan to heat your homemade heating pad.

Q: How big is a 2 lb bag of whole seeds?

A: About 6 cups big. Full. 2 lbs = 6 cups. There.

Q: How much is needed for a standard pillow?

A: Now we're talking HULLS, not seeds. Buckwheat HULLS are used in pillows that aren't going to be heated. Firmness of a pillow is open to interpretation, but as a general rule, 5-6 pounds is a good start. A zipper sewn into the pillow is helpful for getting the firmness just right for the pillow user.

Q: What about a Zafu?

A: Figure 4-5 pounds for a supportive sitting surface. Use buckwheat hulls, not seeds, for a zafu.

Q: How big is a 2 pound bag of hulls?

A: Two pounds of hulls occupy about 2 US gallons.

Q: Can buckwheat hulls be microwaved?

A: NO! Well, that's not entirely true. They CAN be heated in a microwave, but we don't suggest it. For making heatable items, we recommend using whole buckwheat seeds.

Q: What about freezing hulls?

A: No fire hazard there. Cooled buckwheat hulls are very refreshing!

Q: Are the buckwheat hulls sold at www.BuckwheatHull.com organic?

A: The short answer is they are not certified organic. Buckwheat is a hardy crop that does not require chemical help to thrive, so our hulls are grown without inorganic treatment. But the land they are grown on does not necessarily have an organic certification.

Q: How soon after an order is placed is it shipped?

A: In most cases, we ship within 24 hours of receiving payment Monday-Friday. If payment is received via PayPal before noon eastern time, we try to ship the SAME day.

Q: I have a question not answered here. Now what?

A: Send us a note at [email protected] We'll respond as soon as we can. Unless you want to sell us a Rolex watch for $19.99. Those we don't answer.

Sorry it's so long but I copied it over...
