No, a regular needle, but I have heard of using the ball point needles on poly. Have you tried it? I'd be interested in hearing experience of those who have.
I do believe the ball point needles are for the poly knits not the woven fabric. At least that's I learned all those days ago when I sewed clothing in the poly knits.
Back in the sixties and seventies when poly knit was all the rage for clothing, my Mom and us girls (4) sewed all our dresses with 'double knit'.

Mom had tons of scraps left from all these dresses and they were made into simple quilts of 4 or 6 inch squares. She usually put a cotton or twill as backing; some had batting, some not; and I think most of them were tied.

What I remember most about sewing the 'double knit' is always changing to a ball point needle or you would have skipped stitches all thru your seams.
