I took a class through our guild from a lady that called her quilt the Freedom Quilt. We started with a 3 1/2 square, took any left over stripes from other projects, sewed them on, not paying any attention to the color or width. She made her blocks nine and half inches. I made my 12" because that was the size square ruler I had. You tilt you square ruler on your block and cut around it. Tilt the other way for the next block. I made a twin for charity.
