I used wide wale corduroy for a quilt for my son. He went with me to Joanne's and we found a piece of solid olive green he liked so we cut large 12 1/2" squares and simply turned them to make it look interesting. It was incredibly heavy and we tied it. It was quite warm as well since we used a flannel sheet for batting as well as backing. I think using the fine wale would be much easier to work with and you could probably find some old clothes at thrift stores that would work well. Good luck. Give us a picture when you finish it.
