Hmmm, I would hold off on the pinking/clipping.
Because you're not trying to put more "give" in the quilt top. Again, it's not applique.
And now you'd have slits/pinking cuts after you've already sewn the binding on...so when you go to turn it over, it wouldn't be a solidly filled binding. It might be even less than a 1/4" on the right side (or whatever you were shooting for) because you've got away the quilt.
The more I think about it, the more I think this is not a good idea.
