I live in San Antonio, and will only use the polyester batting, also. I made one quilt with warm and natural, and it was entirely too hot for down here, and now that quilt has become a folded decoration, so I know where you're coming from!
Hi neighbor! San Antonio is just over a two hour drive from here. I'll be there in February for the music teachers' conference. I think you get a bit more cold than we do since we're closer to the coast. Our February conference has had icy weather about twice in the last 20+ years. :) Most of the time don't even need a jacket.
Had three-year-old grandson here today. Came in short sleeves and jeans and left in shorts when the temp got into the 80's. Last week had him in layers cause it was in the 30's and he doesn't own a coat - just some fleece jackets. No wonder we're all sick around here!
