I have tried that. I knit and have made my mother a beautiful shawl and a lace bookmark (she's really into reading). I made my SIL a nice scarf. They were not rude about receiving these things, but they did throw them out later. I know everyone will love the gift cards this year, and I have no problem with them preferring cash. Just because I decided to quilt, does not mean everyone I know suddenly decided they wanted one. It does make me a little wistful for those who have family members fighting over what they make, though. Eventually I'll run out of room in my house! At that point, I'll probably try to find a charity to donate them to.
