Yep your cat needs to go to the vet.
I just learned this past year after having cats for 15 that string and what not is very dangerous for them.
We ended up losing our cat - we originally though he had gotten some string lodged in his mouth/throat. Turned out to be cancer :( but we learned a lot and now are very careful with our (female) kitty when we play with her and anything involving string.
