Try this:
cut two rectangles - - 2" x 3"
two squares 2" x 2"
stitch one square to the end of each rectangle.
making sure that the squares are on opposing ends, stitch the two rectangle/squares together on the long side.
Cut a rectangle the same size as your new "piece"
Place right sides together, draw a line from one corner to the other, making sure that you have a square on each side of the line.
stitch 1/4" on both sides of the line, cut on the line, open up, VIOLA!
two blocks, half one color, the other half is a square with a triangle on each side.
