Ahhhh! but the 'old time ladies' had a family that wore calico's and gingham...all women and girls wore dresses...every cook had a colorful apron. When they were worn out, all fabric was carefully inspected to see what could be used in a quilt. If the garment was still too good to be cut up for quilt pieces, it was passed on to a cousin...a neighbor...or whoever. And then there were colorful feed sacks and flour sacks. Many times the ladies couldn't collect enough of one pattern to make a dress or apron, so it went into quits. It was a very rare quilt that had a color theme, but they were beautiful!
