So today I was back in the groove and made a last in minute gift. Anyways, long story short, I can get through the free motion quilting, and put the binding on, but when it comes to actually machine stitching it on ITS A MESS! I HATE IT! I've looked a lot of tutorials online..what am I doing wrong? I like stitching in the ditch so that I don't see the stitch lines on top of the piece. I have pinned down the binding and then slowly go along. It ends up a mess..uneven, missed stitches etc. and I have to go back and touch it up.

I do a zig zag stitch to sew mine down so it catches both sides nicely, otherwise, I would have the same problem you have. What stitch length are you using? I also make mine longer, that helps too
