I was taught a different way to make square puffs. Though yours look much prettier.
Grandma's way was to cut two squares, one slightly larger. Put the 4 corners together and make a fold in the middle of each square, sew together, leaving a space for turning and stuffing. Then follow up more or less the way you did, she always put it on a backing, probably sewed together feed sacks or an old sheet. These were warm in the cold West Virginia winters.
