I am new to the forum as well. I have been interested in quilting for a number of years. My aunts quilted when I was a child and I loved the art form. I made my first quilt when I was 12 (a long long time ago). However, it was an appliqué and I never learned to piece. My granny and I quilted it together in lap frames after stretching it on her big frame.

I put quilting and crafts away for a number of years because of my career and when I received the gift of my first grandson last year, picked up the craft again. I made and hand quilted a baby quilt for him (bowties and duckies). Half applique and half pieced, the corners weren’t perfect but it was made with lots of love. His mom was pleased as punch with it and has taken his photo lying on it.

My Mother in law was a quilter. She won some awards for her work, but has now slipped into the world of Alzheimer’s. A sad journey for anyone but watching a quilter was especially painful. As the only quilter in the family, I have inherited a large stash of fabrics and tools. I need to learn to use them.

When I think of quilts, I think of the love sewn in them and how sleeping beneath them is like being held in that love while we rest. I look forward to meeting some of you.
