For baby quilts I like a smaller scale so a 6 inch block versus a 12 inch block. Maybe look for a pattern? There are a good number of free easy baby quilt patterns online too. 1930 reproduction fabrics lend themselves well for babay quilts. Quilter's Cache online has many , many blocks in different sizes.
