based on the description I read in a couple of links above, this is simply a different way to use prairie points...If you want it for a quilt to use, I'd plan on it being very heavy where the "pine cone" is because of the overlapping PPs. Using silk and satin might be more awkward to use because of their slipperyness, but using them might...I say again, might, make the quilt a little lighter. Good luck
