Hi! I bought some unfinished ones from a discount school supply store (they no longer stock them) and made the set you see for a pincushion swap on this board. It is pretty easy to make your own (this tutorial is about making the pincushions more than painting, but it gives the general idea

I don't know who started it but I've seen selvage umbrella's, skirt's, cushions etc. on the web. Chele collects them and make marvelous things out of them, as well as quite a few other board members. If you start saving yours I'm sure someone around here would be happy to take them off your hands or help you figure out a project!
