The Kindle stores the books, but you can also store them on the computer. If you store them on the computer though, it takes up the space. The Kindle comes equiped so you can get online if at "hotspots" (places with Wifi). If you are not near a place with WiFi, then you can download the book onto your computer and transfer the book over to your Kindle. It takes no time at all. The Kindle comes with the USB cord to transfer the books. I hope this helps!
