I'm working on a split nine patch. Sew 9- 5 inch squares together in three rows of three (typical nine patch.) Then cut in half horizontally and vertically. Rearrange the four pieces as you like and resew. It's easy and very quick. Got it from the Moda website; listed as a table topper, but I've adapted it for a quilt.
