Shadows are duller, darker, grayer versions of the color the thing making the shadow is standing on. Your shadow on a white sandy beach is a dull beige, in a deep forest it would be dark umber, and on you lush green lawn it would be dark, dull green. In your applique, it all depends on the background fabric. It is the background color with less light, less intensity, less color.
