I was going to suggest this, as well. My mom used it when it first came out and it tinted her hair purple - like you see on old ladies in the cartoons!
I have natural blond hair and the shampoo I use definitely affects my hair color. Some shampoos turn it very dark. If you have problems with the "gray" shampoo, try one of the ones for blondes. Pantene and John Freida both make one. It won't bleach your hair, it just keeps it from getting darker.
You can also try a rinse with white vinegar after you wash your hair. Or, you can do 50-50 conditioner and white vinegar. Don't use apple cider vinegar because it darkens your hair. Apply the vinegar generously, then rinse out. The vinegar smell vanishes when your hair is dry. Leaves your hair silky and shiny.
