jmy dog dottie, there are many charities you can donate quilts to. One that comes to mind is Quilts for Kids:
http://www.quiltsforkids.org/. They will even send you the fabric to use...you just have to provide the batting and postage to return it to them. On their press sheet, there's a list of hospitals they give the quilts to. My local hospital is not included, which is why I contacted my hospital auxiliary directly.
