I have One Block Wonders Encore, by Maxine Rosenthal and Joy Pelzmann which covers all the basics and includes the basic cubes, it's great book to start with. I also have One Block Wonders Cubed which probably wouldn't be the best to start with but as the name says it has alot of different cubes.
They are not as hard as they look, it is all straight piecing and they are fun, as you never know what they will look like. :-D
