I agree about bobbins. I would have to buy more thread, so I would have a cone in each position, but it would be well worth it.
My guild buys LA thread in pairs of cones so that additional bobbins can be wound (on a winder) without unthreading the machine.
Almost all of the thread I use comes in cones, which makes it easy to compute the thread milage in a given quilt, or my milage over a year's time. Add up the cones x cone size /5280 feet per mile. Aren't calculators great? One queen sized commissioned quilt used 3.5 miles of thread.
