I made a yo-yo quilt almost 50 years ago. When I finished the yo-yo top I attached the quilt to a bed sheet by tying it in the middle of every yo-yo. This helped stabilize the quilt but the yo-yos have still pulled apart in a few places. It makes a very heavy quilt. I don't think I'd recommend hanging it at all. I'd be afraid the weight would pop all of the seams.

That is so beautiful! I am rethinking the hanging idea. I will have to talk with my niece when we start working on it, maybe we can find another way to display it.

I have mine resting very carefully on a quilt rack at the moment. The rest of the time it is on the guest bed. Early years I used it on my bed and I was rather hard on it! Then it was bagged up for years while we were raising our daughters.(I don't think I fully understood what I'd made. Live and learn and I was too young at that point!) Now it's out and being loved again.
I wish you much luck with your project. I honestly do believe tying the quilt to a foundation is the way to go. Otherwise I think it would need continual resewing of seams.
