I've been sewing for years and only recently realized that they are guides for seam allowances. On the old Singers I have, they are in 1/8 inch increments, I'm not sure what they are on my 1980's Pfaff.
Yes there are guide lines on my machine....it's just that I can sew a seam much faster with a 1/4" foot and it would be nice to use the walking foot so the fabric feeds at the same rate instead of getting to the end of a seam and finding that the top fabric piece stretched.
