I understand completly! Am in the same boat-- older and retired. Evidently sewing projects multiply while we sleep, because no matter how much I sew I never get caught up or run out of ufo's. And fabric scraps---well we won't even go there. If anybody out there would like a box of odd shaped and colored scraps let me know!
