The family ends with me. My husband and I were each only children, and we choose to have our military careers, rather than a family. We have hosted 18 exchange students since my retirement. The last one has boomeranged and is living with us again, attending collage. Now, as a 4-H advisor, I have several thousand "children" per year. I share with them what they are willing to absorb. Their ideals and values are different, and I find a lack of imagination on their part. I write so that everyone can retreat to some corner of their past - and remember.
In case you are not aware, it is really reasonable to self publish a book these days. Go to Lulu.com and see what they have to offer. I wrote essays for a newspaper for a while and my kids kept saying, "Mom, put all of those stories into a book" So six years ago I surprised them with my book. One hundred pages cost me about $8 per book. I love your style and I encourage you to do this. If you want help with cover design, I'd love to help.
