When I was little we would go over to Grandpa's house and he would let us kids have one and only one malt ball and watch him quilt. His hands would be all red and chapped but he would not quit. He would use any and I do mean any kind of material in his quilts. They were all squares and half squares. For the batting he would just use old blankets or whatever he had. He always tied his quilts he. He always used a ladder and a couple tables to lay them out. He put a sign out side that said Quilts for sale and he had people that were vacationing from Arizona, Texas, California and all over stop in for his quilts. My Grandma was deceased so that is what he did with his time. He had 18 children and not a one of them quilted. I am the only one on my Mothers side that took it up where Grandpa left off and I am truley blessed.
