My son was 8--and his were healthy, but huge. The incision was longer than most, so it took longer to heal. He couldn't open his mouth wide enough to eat popscicles, but he drank a lot of choc Carnation Instant Breakfasts. The struggle we had was his was so sore he didn't want to swallow meds--without the meds he would feel good enough to drink--then he'd get a fever. So I had to tell him he had to swallow meds or we had to go back to the hospital for an IV... only thing that worked those first few days.
He lost weight...but he's 6'2" and 210 now...so it'll come back. He wanted to eat much more after those tonsils were out of the way. :wink:
